Collecting my jam jars

This week I was involved in Skype call led by Adesola Akinleye. The discussion had a module two focus and was looking specifically into research, interview and its importance and place within the analysis process.

I found this specific discussion extremely beneficial. It was amazing to see how many elements and concerns I had with the work on this module were answered during this talk. It was also great to hear others ideas for their inquiry and the inspiration behind there choices.

When looking into the idea of qualitive research (of which I have spent many hours thinking, re thinking and thinking again about), I found this specific Skype call a form of qualitive research in itself. Though all on the calls inquiry topics were different, we were all in the same place within the BAPP programme, therefore all in the same situation. Discussion of each others processes and how we were approaching our inquiry proposals was a research method in itself, developing and influencing my own thoughts and ideas from others discussion.

The discussion also touched on looking into the MORE (Middlesex Online Research Ethics) form. I learnt this is a form that discusses and looks into our ethical considerations and is something that is to be submitted by the same date as our draft essays can be submitted. I am working my way through this document at the moment and will continue to do this over the next few days.

Adesola spoke to us more about how this Module is the preparation for our actual inquiry. A statement that I understood, though have noticed how easy it is to maybe take a few steps too far and begin to find out the information and delve into making opinions and finding out the information too soon. Adesola used the thought of collecting your jam jars of information and presenting them in front of you, but ensuring not to remove the lids until the next stage of the programme.

With this in mind, I am collecting my jam jars and finding literature and gaining momentum of ideas that are really inspiring whilst ensuring to maintain the idea of qualitive research, view many areas of my holiday destination and wondering around currently without a map or final destination in mind to be as present and observant of my surroundings.

  1. Hi Andrew, I always enjoy your blog. I think I am guilty of forgetting this is the planning stage and am too quick to jump to the information on my inquiry topic and not all the whys and hows of my plan. Can I ask what your thoughts are on the critical reflection drawing? Has it been discussed in any of your Skype calls?

Good luck with your draft, I think I will be pulling a few late nighters in the next 2 weeks. Charlie S x

    1. Hi Charlie, great to hear from you and thank you for the comment. Stepping back a little bit and looking at how I prepare my inquiry has made more sense for me within the context of the module.

With regards to the drawing, I may have read the handbook differently and have taken it that it is an essay that we write drawing on our experiences as a pose to illustrating a picture? Not sure if I have interpreted that correctly but it hasn't yet come up in a Skype call. Would be great to clarify if anyone knows?!
